Contenders For The Crown - Demo

Contenders For The Crown was a Hardcore band from Sacramento that started sometime in 1998. Formed by a dude named Noodle (guitar) with the help of Mike Hood, CFTC played heavy, straight forward Hardcore in the vein of bands like Hoods (especially the older stuff). After solidifying their lineup and recruiting former Hoods singer Mike Miranda to sing, they released this 4-song demo on cassette back in 1999 through West Coast Worldwide Records. I’m not positive, but I believe that this demo was recorded at Matt Erich’s studio in Sacramento (this was pretty much the staple studio/sound for Hardcore in Northern California around that time).

Contenders For The Crown recorded a much heavier record entitled “…And The Weak Shall Fall” sometime around 2000, but unfortunately it was never released. Sadly, they broke up shortly thereafter. Members of CFTC have since gone on to play in bands like Hellcrew, Beyond Sorrow, Ear 2 Ear and Massacre Time. This is an awesome demo from a lesser-known Sacramento band, so definitely check it out. I would definitely recommend this to fans of Hoods, Above This World, etc.

  1. Cheers on posting this. I talked to Noodle about a year ago and we talked about him possibly putting out the CFTC full length "..And The Weak Shall Fall". He's sittin on the 2" tape...just needs to be mixed down. That shit would kill alot of the weak shit they are passing off as hardcore these days. Hopefully that album will see the light of day.

  2. Speaking of Beyond Sorrow...You wouldn't happen to have their demo would you? I've been searchin high and low..near far for the shit. No luck. Not sure if there even is one but I'd like to hear more from this band. Their song "Take Away" on the first wcww comp owns.

  3. Oh, Also, Noodle burned me a cdr with a few tracks from the "...And The Weak Shall Fall" record. It has "Where You Stand", "Denile 2000" just a heavier version of the one on their demo tape, and an Untitled track. I think these are also posted on the CFTC myspace. Anyway I have it uploaded on my mediafire account and can send it your way if you wanna post it on the blog.

  4. joshua,

thanks for the support man, i agree that a cftc full length would definitely killed about 99% of the 'hardcore' coming out nowadays. hopefully the '...and the weak shall fall' record will be released eventually! i would love to get a copy/hear it! mike spaulding (miranda) had the hardest voice!

as for beyond sorrow, i can't remember off top if they had a demo or not (i feel like they probably did, but i will do some more investigating). that song on the wcww comp is hard as fuck and i definitely remember seeing them up in sac and thinking they were dope.

if you ever happen to talk to noodle at all, please let him know that i am interested in getting/posting the 'weak shall fall' record (but only if he's into it) on the blog. i can be reached at:
